A Humanist Perspective

The goal for this web site is to help friends, relatives or anyone else who may be interested, to understand me a little better and hopefully promote understanding on perceptions associated with organized religion, Humanism, Atheism and freethought philosophies. The genuine truth seeking mind continues to grow and evolve throughout it's lifetime, never regressing, but remaining open to new truth with the spirit of Reason and the Scientific Method as it's guide! I have pondered about what I should say on this website about the cowardly attacks on my country and the Free World. The words do not come easily. Such disregard for human life is beyond my understanding. It is against everything I believe in. It can shake one's faith in Human Nature. But I think it's important to understand that these acts were committed by persons which have allowed hatred to infect their ability to reason. This, in my view, is the number one danger of religion. It is clear that this hatred grew from an extremist religious perspective. That is one of the reasons I have this website! To show that hatred is WRONG and can lead to degeneration of the mind! Right now the thoughts I've expressed on my "Candle's Light" page (see link below) are all the more relevant. Some have thoughtlessly cited these acts of hatred as an indication we must get "closer to God", even going so far as to blame Atheists for the lack of morals in the world! But those were not Atheists who attacked our country on September 11, 2001. Why not get closer to SANITY! God ideas inspire more violence than any other idea! Look it up! READ!!

I am an American who believes in the values our constitution has set forth. Our country was founded as a secular nation, not a christian nation as some would have you think. Although certainly some of the founders were Christians, many key people were not. Most of them agreed that the only way to ensure freedom with regard to religion is with a government which is neutral toward it. If you really think that the United States Constitution is based on the "Ten Commandments", it's time to clear your mind and read them both again!

It is my sincere hope that hatred will one day be eliminated from Human culture. If you hate those of us who do not share your god beliefs, you are no different than the terrorists who hate America and you are part of the problem! You need to examine the reasons for your hatred before you hurt someone! I do not promote hatred even toward those who disagree with my views. Life is just too important to allow this cancer a footing. I hope that my words promote understanding toward that goal.

Human Beings have the ability to reason, which charges us to behave in a responsible manner toward other persons and toward our environment, the Earth! Humanists are not motivated by the promise (or threat) of an "afterlife". All are born and all will die. The time in between is our time to leave our legacy. This much is certain! Therefore we are convinced that our concerns for the welfare of Humanity are genuine and pure. No threat of a hell hangs over us and the satisfaction of being a part of something good is it's own reward!

Everything we see, we see it through Human eyes. Everything we know is known through a Human mind! Humankind has come a long way from it's primative beginnings to where we are now! Have we had help along the way? Who can say? If so, the helpers remain curiously elusive to us! Even if so, the question would remain: "Where did the helpers come from?" On pondering the "Origin of Life", a reasonable mind understands that Science is the only honest approach because it

UNDERSTANDS THE QUESTION!

We don't accept that we need to be "saved" from ourselves. Humankind is not perfect but we believe we have the resources and the abilities to progress, evolve and thrive! With all our faults, it seems to be working. We think it can be better! Our faith is that it will be! Historically, gods have always been the invention of Man, born from Human ignorance and superstition. No exceptions have come to light thus far. Therefore we believe it is imperative that we must take control and accept the responsibility for our own lives. We don't pretend to know all the answers to Life but we do know it is worth preservation!

What then is the purpose for "Life"?

It's to LIVE!
